Looking back at the video and various readings on population, I am pessimistic about the future in terms of population. I think the problems of population can be summarized by two forms. The first one is aging of population in the industrial world, and, the second one is the overpopulation in the emerging nations.
In my opinion, the solution for the ageing of population should be used four important ways. The first one is to enhance the industrial world’s fertility because low fertility rate is the main reason caused the ageing of the population. Secondly, rising the retirement age is good way to alleviate the problem of ageing population. Let some of the elderly whose physical condition allows the situation to continue to contribute to society. This group of people can ease the social pressure. Furthermore, some developed countries if they have ability; they can migration policy to solve the problem of ageing population, it’s a very effective way. In addition, improve the social security system is also a good way to cope with the ageing of the population.
For emerging nations, I think the good example is China. Chinese government are using the two important ways to fix the problem of Overpopulation, one is good education, and another one is Family Planning. For education, Chinese government gives Chinese people 6 years compulsory education for free. They put the money heavily for developing the foundation of rural because they clearly understand the root of the problem is the low education villagers. The second way is family planning. Chinese government develops the law for limit the population in each family. The law stipulates each family just can have one child. Look at the result for limit overpopulation, it is really success. Nowadays, the population in china is really being controlled by using these two ways.
